Permanent or Term?
Life
insurance comes in two main forms - term and permanent. Both forms
offer a death benefit. Term life offers this death benefit for a
specific period of time, and little else. Permanent insurance
accumulates a cash value in addition to a death benefit.
Within both types of insurance you can find a wide variety of
options, and can also choose from a variety of extra benefits,
called "riders," to customize your plan.
Selecting the right type of life insurance depends on what you
want it to do for you. To get maximum protection for a limited
period at the lowest initial outlay, the best choice would usually
be term insurance.
Permanent insurance is a better choice if you want long-term
coverage at a predictable premium and a way to accumulate funds
for emergencies and future needs or opportunities.
